Default Have you ever damaged your tat?

Since I'm still a noobie, I've been a little paranoid about my arm. I keep trying to avoid things that, chances are really aren't gonna hurt it. I used to mountain bike but I'm reconsidering that now. I have a feeling crashing into a tree and sliding 20 feet in dirt an rocks is not a good idea.

So what are the stories? What happened and were you able to fix it?

Just wear some good gear. If you are mountain biking anyway...you should probably have some gear on.

A good lightweight armored textile jacket will keep you from getting road/tree/rock rash and it will protect you MUCH better than nothing. The air goes right through them too, so you stay cool (but it will definitely be hotter than a tshirt).

I have the same concern on my motorcycle. You can bet that I wear gear head to toe...no way am I damaging my art, that cost a lot of time, pain, and money.

Here is the kind of jacket I'm talking about:

http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/...521-FIR-8.html

If you pull out the insulated liner...its like super tough fishnet material...very breathable but still has armor for your arms, shoulders, and back.

Now, this was designed for motorcycling...but you might find something similar for mountain biking...or just get a jacket like this and ride in cooler weather.

Yeah, last time I crashed. I was knocked unconcious, busted my helmet and rode back to the parking lot on a broken arm. Of course I lost my memory and don't remember how I crashed or the ride back to the parking lot. I didn't come to until I was standing in the parking lot with everyone around me.

I was like "Who the f*ck are these people?!?!?"

Apparently on the ride back all I was saying was "So what happened?" and kept repeating that until I got back to the lot. I'm sure if I was concious I wouldn't have ridden back on a broken arm. I'm not hardcore enough for that -ish.

LOL...concussions are almost always hilarious (when no one is *seriously* hurt).

Sounds like you need some gear...and good health insurance!

Why is it that all bike helmets suck big time? They are almost always these little beanie things that only protect you if you dive head first into an empty pool...Maybe an MX helmet would help keep you from getting another concussion?

Eh, I don't think they suck that much. The force of the impact was pretty strong. I'm sure if I didn't have my helmet on, I woulda busted my head right open. According to the people behind me it was a pretty impressive crash.

The helmets are usually small and light because of the enviroment. For the most part you're riding for atleast 30mins and in high heat. So you want something that won't restrict airflow to your head and is pretty light.

After the accident I went with one that had a little more protection that normal ones.

This is a cross of design more closely related to BMX Freestyle and skating helmets.

That is a much better design than I normally see...glad to see someone is making ones that offer more protection.
