Default mixing powder

Does anyone out there still mix powders themselves. I use waverly and stable all the time but for some reason have had the drive to mix some myself. Besides national is there any other places that you can get pure powder?

i am actually mixing up a few batches this coming weekend. as far as aquiring powder, i would recomend talking to a few different reputable ink suppliers as to where you can get what you need. most folks will not want to give this info out over an open forum.

im kinda like fiveburroughs,i've always wanted to mix my own, not to try and sale, but to make the absolute best quality ink possible for my tattoos, i would spend money to buy the best quality everything....and take pride knowing my inks are as pure as possible. plus i'd never run out!!! and i've have like 5 trillion colors!

if anyone has any tips they would share but dont want the entire world knowing it please send me a pm.

I totally understand that. I am not trying to make a business of it or even replace what i am already using it. Its just something i should know the concept of and give me a better understanding of the process.

nothing wrong with wanting to learn something new. this is one of those grey areas of todays apprenticeships. mixing ink, making machines, cutting tubes, making needles were all part of the apprenticeship when i was learning. i think a lot of folks miss out on that these days due to supply companies. now granted, i myself have become quite lazy and use the suppliers too, hell i couldn't tell you the last time i made needles was. from time to time, i still build a machine or mix some color, but it's usually during the slow season because i'm bored.

yeah i learned how to build machines. all the way down to wrapping my own coils. I know how to make needles. but the one thing i never learned was to mix powder. my mentor knew how but he said it was a waste of time with so many quality pigments out. So i understand. but i think its a good skill to know how to do.

ask your mentor, if he knows a reputable supplier to get powder, even if he doesn't want to do the work, he can still give you the hook up
