Default Oil Painting Question (RE: Line Seed Oil Reaction)

Hello,

I am fairly new to Oil Painting and recently completed 2 paintings, One on canvas panel and one on stretched canvas. In both cases I used lin seed oil as a final varnish. I realize now, after purchasing and reading through Nick Baxter's book (Sharp Focus Realism in Oil) that this is probably not recommended, and the lin seed oil should be cut in during the last few layers. And if done properly, can stand on it's own without a need for a varnish layer. However, on those 2 paintings that I used the lin seed oil as a varnish, I got a reaction, the lin seed oil kind of bubbled up, and left tiny snowflake like bumps all over the surface of the painting, which causes weird effects when light hits the surface just right. Is there anyway I can fix this, and smooth out the lin seed oil once dry? Any technique or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am very happy with how the paintings came out, but I feel as though this mistake has ruined the paintings, due to the almost orange peel like texture of the lin seed oil coat

Thanks,
Ben
