at the risk of sounding stupid, the "pyro" appears to have a shorter throw from the armature bar to the tube clamp. would you (as an owner of that machine) have to custom make needles specifically for "that" machine? or is the difference small enough that you can adjust that by simply moving the tube in or out of the clamp?

Don't feel stupid by asking, as a matter of fact several customers that never owned a shorty asked me the same. It's not a shorter throw, It's a shorter coil. The machine will fit your conventional tubes. All you will get is .25" tube inside the vise. I actually setup all my tubes to run shorter (right inside the vise before it sticks in from the inside towards the abar) All my liner tubes are have .25" less tube sticking out.
