Alla Prima colors
OK, so I've done some work with the Alla Prima inks and I like them. For the way I work, they go in really nice and smooth and I like the creamy consistancy. Not crazy about their primary green though.
Does anyone know if they are polymer based? I e-mailed them and the response I got was that they are a "proprietary, pre-dispersed powder pigment, glycerine, alcohol, and distilled water." Sooooo essentially they didn't say "NO", and of course 'proprietary' means secret. So far like the inks BUT I do not want to use polymers... anyone know about this?

Re: Alla Prima colors
I have been using them for a while but i don't think they are polymers,
but as for that green add a little of the starbrite yellow and it makes b1tc4 work a little better

Re: Alla Prima colors
Thanks man! Yeah -- I'm in progress working on a giant demon tat that takes up this dude's entire thigh. I did the whole demon using the blood set and some yellow. (and of course black). I just saw him (been about 2 weeks since we did that part) and its healing up really nice too.
Funny you mentioned using the SB yellow -- I always set up a cup of that no matter what green I use! Has anyone made a yellow that tops it? I haven't seen one yet!

Re: Alla Prima colors
they suck. finally got to see a healed tattoo i did with them 4 months ago. the whole piece was translucent and blotchy at best, i had to redo the entire tattoo. not a fan, seems like a waste of money considering i had to do the tattoo twice and get paid once.

Re: Alla Prima colors
Thought about trying their Primary set but I'm not dropping an extra $20-30 on "Tax" when I don't live anywhere near California. Not really a tightwad, I ride a $500 Trek bike back and forth to work, It's the principle of the matter. I'd buy it if the extra $20-30 was shipping and handling or a surcharge, but not taxes.

Re: Alla Prima colors
even the other guys in the shop were using them and all switched. i'll stick to what i make and waverly. of course there are a few special colors i like that i have to buy from other suppliers, but that's about it for trying out new stuff. the last 2 years so much stuff has come out on the market and i wanted to try it all. i found what i like and that's what i'll stick with, but i'm never afraid to try new things.

Re: Alla Prima colors
Wow -- hey thanks Jay! Man that's a bummer, I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on that. This guy is seeing me again next week for another round so I'll get a good close look then. Maybe take some pics and post 'em here in this thread. I love they way they go in and, like you said, 50 ba-jillion new inks hit the market recently so i don't want to be trying every damn thing. If I'm not thrilled then I'll move on back to my own mixes and some Waverly colors. I'm gonna shoot you a PM about that...
Beamish -- If you want to try them, try ordering them from Unimax, they carry them.
SJR -- Thank you for posting that you've had no problems!!! I am the first one I know to play with them, so I read Jay's post like "oooooh sheeeeet..."

Re: Alla Prima colors
I think Unimax just carries the color systems like Blood, Zombie, and Periwinkle. Bicknee has the Primary set but when trying something for the first time I like to buy straight from the manufacturer to reduce variables if a problem should arise and I don't like to support suppliers that sell to the general public.
One of the other artists at our shop picked up their Black works and Flesh tones set a few weeks ago and speaks highly of it, said it was hard to push and he didn't care for their White but said he'd be buying more. Also the picture of the middle Flesh tone looks nothing like what he got, looks like the picture on the Unimax site.
Not really a big deal, still a good ink just wasn't what he was expecting.
