i guess i get more of a kick out of the vid because i know people that are so "old school" and claim to do everything so authentically...and then really dont. they want the look immediately, without any thought to the wearer. not schooling all artists...as much as the people i had in mind ha

its weird...but people forget so fast WHY people did what they did. Its like a lot of the "new" traditional tattooers are lining with 14's/ A FOURTEEN???!!!?!??!!! what is that going to look like in 5, 10, 15 years! Insane!
It will make a good portfolio pic...but...well s&!t, watch the rick walters video.
take it from him, not me.

If the line work is done right, it will last and not spread to bad. I have a 23 year old tattoo done by Tatts Taylor that still looks great. It was a cover up and he used a 5 round. All the yellow and orange are still there. Application is more important than the image itself.

Re: Single needle shading...
I love using single needles now and then, but only for small stuff obviously. After that I do 3's and then jump all the way up to 9's and 14's. I never liked the look of "medium" liners IMO. Thin looks cool and bold stands out so that's all I do hah. I'd love to learn a few tips for doing some fine stipple work like Jondix or Tomas Tomas, Thomas Hooper's art is amazing to me too.

Re: Single needle shading...
gotta one off single coil machine from dano collins. It's my baby when it comes to fine line work. Super light and zippy with 1s, 3s, and maybe a 5 every now and then. It's just not efficient over an hour or so. Wants to heat up too fast since it's only one coil. the less weight and vibration make it far easier to lean towards a small liners. If you haven't tried one, i'd check it out.
