If you like to be entertained but your artist is a quiet type, try getting some book-on-tape style podcasts and putting em in your ipod, and bringing it to listen to. Works wonders.

I blab away for half the time, usually it is not an artist I have worked for before and though I may have said hello a couple times there is alot I want to ask them. I try not to ask prying questions just regular chat. Enjoy the music, sometimes I bring a good ink magazine and eyeball all the art on the walls.

I also find I enjoy watching the process of the tattoo and the artists technique, so I sit or lay down in a way I can observe.

The pain and endurance time are part of the price of getting to wear such b1tc4in sh*t, its a price I will pay over and over.

I was tattooed Sunday by Sean Herman, Russ Abbott last night (thursday) and will put 5 hours or so in saturday with Dave Attonito, am I worried about pain from head to toe? Hell no, you seen this kick ink?

remember, these are human beings people. Treat them like anyone else and conversation will come automatically. I always find it good to bring along a friend. It's always good to have a middle "man" to keep the conversation goin if you just want to sit back and deal wit some pain. I'm pretty sure the artist doesn't expect you to entertain them while they are stickin needles in you for 12 hours. they probably want a cool person who sits awesome, and that's pretty much it. Good luck, make sure we get some pics.

thanks all for the input. I will probably bring my ipod for back up should we run out of idle chit chat and I need a distraction from the pain. I just didnt know if an artist would see me whip out the ipod and get annoyed.

I have a 4 - 6 hour sitting on Saturday. I simply e-mailed my artist (Tim O) and asked him how he liked to work (and if he wanted me to bring him a Publix Deli sandwich). Based on his feedback I will bring a book, my ipod, maybe a movie. I still will talk to him a little at least. But most I don't want to get in the way.
