It's too bad so many dogs died in combat. War dogs were typically used for intimidation and distraction tactics. It's unfortunate that many didn't survive the actual fight. Poor doggies, I'm sure they've taken down many a mounted rider though.

im not sure how related they are to pits but i have a book with a breed called a Cane Corso. they are freakin awesome looking dogs.

yeah, I think that is the same breed I am talking about, I have heard them called a couple different names.

The dogs at sanders kennels are Presa Carneros, Cane corso are a different breed all togetheralthough both look to be related to pits.
