Re: why use a cutback liner?
to start with a cutback liner has a shorter stroke not longer and the reason is to move faster.they call them cutback because the contact screw is further back, closer to the back-spring sattle in order to be able to use shorter springs to make the arm-bar make shorter and faster move.the drawback is it can be used only on small group needles(3-7maximum) very good set up for newschool tattoos.i know for sure that paul booth bob tyrrel and guy archison use a mikey sharpz microdial (cutback liner model) for their tattooing.for more traditional or old school you need a long stroke machine witch is slower but it has bigger momentum (im not sure if its correct translate, but i meen the force of the arm bar hit that can be achieved between the gap of coil and contact screw) its physics.imagine a hummer hitting a nail.if you lift your arm to the height of your chest you will hit the nail more times in a minute but with less power.if you lift it over your head and hit you will hit harder and less times in a minute.
conclusion is each setup has its purpose and each tattoo artist has his/her style
