When a tattoo artist Photoshops theyre portfolio...
<br>
I was recently fired for posting this pic on myspace....
Here's the story-
The artist name is Mendi, she has been tattooing for 15 years now and is the daughter of my former boss. I seen this pic in her portfolio a week ago and noticed a little something was weird about it, so i looked a little closer at the dragonflies and realized that s&!t was cut and pasted in photoshop right onto the existing tattoo that she had done. She was at home that day popping pills and watching the roaches crawl up and down her apartment walls so i couldnt confront her about it yet....so naturally i posted the s&!t on myspace to see what everyone else thought about it (i didnt post her name or even where the pic came from) well, the boss found out and gave me a call and i explained it all to him and suprisingly (yea thats a tough one to spell right?) he totally agreed with me. So i just assumed everything was cool. Turns out i was wrong and at work the next day we had a big dramatic meeting about it and her husband (who pierces at the shop) demanded that i apologize and i basically just blew him off...So we all shake hands and once again everyhting appears to be cool...The next day Mendi finally comes to work and needs to talk to me outside, so I follow her and her 3 large friends and husband outside and she declares that im fired....and blah blah blah. 15 year old titties and cops. ( read my other post in post your work). My point is Its very wrong to do what she did and even tho i have a family to support and our economy is s&!t, I still feel i did the right thing in standing by what i believe in.....any thoughts on this and photoshop in general?

typical hack shop, drama every where you f@#king turn. your better off. go to a real shop, where the artists actually care about what they are doing.

Re: When a tattoo artist Photoshops theyre portfolio...
You are right (the tattoo looks bad + the photoshopping is deceitful)
It sucks, but of course the father is going to fire you and not the daughter. No way around that really. That's just life. You couldn't possibly think he'd take your side against his own daughter and son-in-law.
That being said, you really shouldn't go out of your way to slam co-workers on MySpace or in any other public space (and especially not if the co-worker is your boss's daughter!) That's just not smart to do. I would have fired you and told her to remove the deceitful pic.
She may have posted a deceitful picture, but the boss could have just told her to take it down. (Or told you to MYOB). Issue solved. On the other hand, you're publicly slamming a co-worker, airing the shop's dirty laundry, and making everyone who works there (including yourself) look bad. You may not have posted her name, but I'm sure many who read what you posted had seen it in her portfolio and knew who you were talking about. Not to mention, you're trying to take it upon yourself to be "the boss" (you said you wanted to "confront her" about it) Leave that sort of s&!t to the boss. Your offenses are worse IMO.
You're even still doing it. Posting the artist's name and slamming the shop, etc. If I heard about this story, I wouldn't hire you at a new shop either.
Just my opinion

Re: When a tattoo artist Photoshops theyre portfolio...
I totally agree with what you're saying. I guess I didn't make that clear enough really.
I think in this situation, he's much better off just being out of that family-run decietful environment. It sounds like it was just a toxic environment all-around and no good artist belongs in that mess of a shop. (Since I posted that, I have read more about all of it)
I guess much of what I was saying would apply more if the shop wasn't such a f@#ked up mess in the first place. If he had quit, then made the postings, it would have been better. Even in the worst shop, you can't expect to slam the shop and the owner's daughter and still expect to have a job, no matter how f@#ked up and deceitful the shop and daughter/"artist" is.

Re: When a tattoo artist Photoshops theyre portfolio...
Hows the saying go?...."Dont sh#t where u sleep".
I had confronted, in a respectable manner, my old boss about posting my work in his Tattoo album and well it went okay for th most part. It was removed with a "Oh i got confused since i did so many this month i cant keep track" reply but it was taken care of. ---Mind u his shop is in another city that i used to drive to wen i worked for him. I dont work for him anymore and i heard its back in his Photo album. His reasons r "It was done in my shop so i can do whatever i want with", it went something like that.
He had also photo-edited a Coverup Pic that still showed many nuances of the OLD tattoo thru the new one he did. He knew he chose the wrong path for that Tattoo Cover and figured he would just make it look better edited in his Album specifically named "Cover ups". Yes its Deceptive.
So i think this may be something that happens alot with Artists that dont believe in themselves or make their skills look better than what they r capable of. Just my 2 cents.
