i can't tell how recessed that o ring is, but i would think if it sticks out, it would create a bounce that made it hit funky and snap back in a way that made it put stress on the springs? if it IS recessed well in there then...it seems kinda pointless?

from what i gather the idea is that it sticks out and dampens the armature bar, but like you said it could create an unwanted bouncyness and possible problems as well as reducing the effective magnetic pull
