Re: police shoot and kill pet in home
if i was a cop i would shoot anything larger than a beagle that advanced toward me unrestrained in a situation like that.
my uncle is a cop and usually avoids this situation by first saying 'get that dog under control or I WILL shoot it, and i don't shoot to wound.'
think about it in the cop's POV though. everyday, every call, especially when you have to enter strange residences you never know who or what is on the other side of the door. i'd be a little on edge about any threat, real or precieved, in an environment you know nothing about but have to deal with anyway. dogs can be trained to attack with a single command. if rover is already closing ground and the dog attacks theres no time for the cop to react but gives plenty of time for the owner to run or go for a weapon, etc. if your life is in that kind of jeopardy everyday you tend to prefer to err on the side of caution...caution being going home at the end of the day in the same condition you started so you can do it all again tomorrow

Re: police shoot and kill pet in home
if it was me that shot a police dog out of fear for my well being and self preservation, it would be assaulting an officer.

But there would probably be a reason the police dog was running after you.

Re: police shoot and kill pet in home
If the guy was fearful for his life, why is it that the first police officer to walk in just walked past the dog.
Im sorry, but some people are to fast to shoot a dog.

The first officer walked past Ruckus, but the second officer opened fire, killing the dog, he said.

Re: police shoot and kill pet in home
It is sad that stuff like this happens a 1000 times a day in this young world we live in, and it's sad that young soldiers are dying Terry...but none the less I am not a fan of the gung ho police waiting to arrest, and sometimes kill people(and animals) because they can, but they do go into some pretty heavy situations that most of us could not.... On that note, I wonder how to keep everything in perspective, mentally? Not sticking up for anybody that does wrong, but fearing for your life brings on a mental state that is not so attractive to the rest of the world.....now if it was my dog I would be ssssooooo pissed!

Sadness.... Maybe he can take this terrible situation and make something positive out of by rescuing a shelter puppy and keep another dog from dying.
