Re: Tattoo Apprenticeship!!!!
I have never heard of a tattooer, with a tattoo portfolio going to get an apprenticeship. The portfolio you need to have is a portfolio of your art. And mindblowing art. Tattooable art, things that show you understand the basics of shade, lighting, linework, and design concept. DRAWINGS. No tattooer that spent years apprenticing, and spent years trying to make it in this profession is going to respect otherwise. Ive seen your posts, and its really like talking to a brick wall. You already think you know what you are doing without training, and I might be wrong, but until you can post some art of the black and grey tattoos you have done, and the fixups, you aren't going to get a great deal of respect from people who bleed tattooing, whose family survive on tattooing, and really "scratchers"....people who DONT and CANT tattoo out of a real shop are taking respect and money out of the lives of people that deserve it.
There is no such thing as going around your apprenticeship. That is like saying "i couldnt pass my doctors exam, so i am going to remove this pancreas in my kitchen".
But look, you know everything, you think you arent a scratcher, and like all the people that come into my tattoo shop and say "i did this myself" and they really actually think it looks good, and it looks like someone took a needle and vomited all over it and jammed it into their skin, there isnt a single thing I can say to make you or them, think differently about their abomination to this artform.
If I am wrong, post some pictures of your work, and I will apologize. Until then, dude, you ARE a scratcher and do yourself a favor. Put down the tattoo machines, get to drawing and bust your ass getting into a real shop, learning the right way.
A house is built one brick at a time....and the only place success comes before work....is in the dictionary.
get it right.

well you must not have come here! we take on apprentices regularly.
we have taken on artists who already do s&!tty tattooes yes, but its harder to UNLEARN bad habits than to start with fresh ideas... a blank slate is always preferred.

Re: Tattoo Apprenticeship!!!!
hey Brandon.. you still looking?? even though I own my own shop up here and have started an apprenticeship.. I'd be willing to move down there in a heartbeat and sell my shop.... I have been piercing for 6 years and know the basics of tattooing and s&!t... however, still working on my art ability... I don't have a huge portfolio but if you check out my few pieces at www.myspace.com/illicitink I could work on a bigger portfolio if I have a reason to....
Thanks
Austina
