Default A question for the artists

Ok so how does everyone feel when someone comes to you and asks to have their own drawing tattooed? I have done that once but when looking for an artist, I always felt weird asking. I kind of got the impression that this was a rude thing to ask. Is it? *curious*

Also- sorry if there is a topic like this somewhere already, apparently the search function no likey my compy.

I'm okay with it as long as they want EXACTLY what they drew tattooed on them. Otherwise I like to redraw it.

Just my personal preference.

it depends on the piece really if it's something good that will turn out to be a cool tattoo then yeah i'll tattoo it on them, but if it's basically an idea for a tattoo drawn out on paper with no thought given to composition, color, or linework, then no i wouldn't tattoo that and i'd redraw something.

its very common and its not rude at all - Ive done it a million times back in the street shop days of my carreer.

most times though it never looks as good as if the artist had reworked it though? tattooers know what translates to skin better than regular artists as its totally different than canvas or paper.

The artist can always use what you bring in as a basis for the tattoo. There are some amazing paintings/drawings/whatever out there that are amazing on paper. Most of these rarely look as good as a tattoo as the client thinks they will. Thats where picking out an artist with the style you are looking for comes into play. If you like their style, and trust the work they have done, then it's not a bad idea to give them your artwork as an idea and let them do what is needed to make a good looking tattoo. When you do it that way, true it's not all "your artwork", but it can be considered almost as a collaboration between you and your tattoo artist.
