Default Not happy w/ my first tattoo...need opinions..

My tattoos looked good when it was first done ( 2months ago) , but now it looks blurry/muddy?? esp around the lines. I let it heal properly. Took the bandage off after 3hrs, and only hand washed the tattoo with dial until all scabbing was gone. No sun exposure. There was alot of scabbing on the zoomed in part of the tat (see below) but no scabbing on the rest. The lines and the shading look muddy now, and the color seems to have faded maybe. Is it just a bad job by the artist or did it not heal properly??? I wanted my tattoo to have some depth, but it just looks flat now. Need some opinons from people with tattos, not my friends who are going to tell me it looks good no matter the situation. Thanks for any help..

getting tattooed in a kitchen is illegal for the same reason getting a back alley abortion is illegal.

this could either be the ink he used or the artist. or a combination of both. it's normal for a tattoo to lighten slightly during healing, but this lightened a good deal. here's what i think, and how i would approach a tattoo like this.

in order to create depth in a tattoo design, there needs to be a lot of contrast going on. there should be larger areas of blacks, as well as larger areas of lighter colors. when i do stuff like this, the entire area gets filled with the image. no skin shows through. when you cover that much area, you can get the full spectrum of shades and tones required to give a piece of art full dimension.

that's my two cents! feel free to email me any further questions you have. if you want to do something to make this tattoo pop i'd be more than happy to work on it with you.
