Default tattoos and aging

I want my first tattoo to be a full back piece commemorating my graduation from graduate school. But as i age, if colors fade, wouldn't a black piece be better than color? If fine lines boraden and "smear" would bold lined pieces be best? The design i have in mind contains fine lines and details, as well as nice colors. I don't want to comission a piece of fine art that is going to look good for only 10 or 20 years. I would like some feedback on that please. Does age affect tattoos like that? How will those amazing sleeves on this site look in 20 years?

The colors we do will not fade - that all depends on the artist and the machines and the ink and all that... as long as your not constantly getting sunburned horribly youll be fine!

happy graduation too!
