I've worked in some weird situations over the years. I learned in a shop, and have years of OSHA, and no matter where I'm at it's a proper setup...but...

word. If you are doing good tattoos, in a clean environment, with sterile chain of events for your equipment, fine then. If you're doing s&!tty work, and not washing your hands, I don't give a f@#k who you are...it's a mistake!

hopefully the information people will learn will atleast make these people learn some safe practices. kingpin and eikon all the only suppliers i use.

the whole part about haven educated customers is awsome.
thats why there are artists like brandon and the AON crew who have changed the outlook on getting a tattoo for many customers of mine.
there is alot of redirecting a customer i have lernt in the past while and it makes for a happy tattoo artist when u know u havent made someones mind up for them but u have educated them to learn more and make a desicion that they will be proud and happy with in the end.
not only maken the right choice for the tattoo or placement but haven a good expeirience is also part of it.

you guys all rock.
keep on tattooing and maken people happy.
unfortunately we can't weed them out but we fix their mistakesat a higher price! i myself have been "between shops" and have still worked. had 2 apprenticeships one, shorter than my manhood, hahaa but keep learning every day. if i tend to give out info it is out of general helpfulness, because i have been helped in the same way . i don't think i do...........do i?

First off....You can't teach yourself something you don't know...You can learn from your mistakes...so self-taught is bull! Self-learned is the proper word for those that don't apprentice. It bothers me when Great artists say they were self-taught because it makes every scratcher feel that they can do it too.

Second...It doesn't matter where you are tattooing so much if you are a trained professional, as long as you use proper medical procedures.

Third....most professionals tattooing at home are doing so in a room set up for tattooing and it is not used for anything else.

Fourth....most scratchers don't bother to read forums about tattooing. They get their kit and are anxious to work on their friends. Some elevate themselves to a professional level by making friends with other artists and researching everything they can get a hold of. But the majority of them realize they are not good enough and they sell their kits after messing up all their friends.

Fifth....I haven't seen much on this board that would help many scratchers.....

steve is very right... the benefit of this board is the information that i've seen on it only helps people who already know what they are doing.

and aren't all artists technically "self learned" as steve said. How else did half of these guys figure out layering, blending colors, and all of the other new tricks that have been coming out. and beleive me they're not sharing that kind of info with just anyone, i've been experimenting with layering for a lil while now and am just beginning to grasp it.

I work with people that get majorly agro on people that come in the shop with homemades, but the real deal is, although it puts tattooing in a negative light, you can either, hate on it and spend your nights with your panties in a twist, or educate the public, and realize, it aint gonna go away...but other than negative press, its not going to hurt my custom clientele coming in, wanting quality, professional tattoos.

lets be realistic, the dude that gets "wicked" tattooed about an outline of a skull with a jesters had, that all looks like a marshmellow, and its smoking a blunt, with grim reapers in the smoke, and that looks like flying black spaghetti, is he really going to pay my hourly rate anyway? not unless he wised up and wants it covered.

Agreed. The morons who support and allow these hacks to work are the real problem.

it's harsh to say but it's the consumers own damn fault for getting bad tattoos... with the quantity of talented artists out there growing everyday there's no reason to have to settle for getting a s&!tty tattoo. If you're not smart enough to research not only what you want to get and who to do it to match your style then you deserve it.
