Default Touch ups

I'm not an artist, but am I right in thinking that if you go to a world class artist for a tattoo you shouldn't need a touch up.

Is the phrase "it should go in right first time" correct as long as you heal it proper.

Or can differnt colours on differnt skin types heal patchy and require touching up?

It's something I've wondered for a while (not an artist btw)

any tattoo,in my opinion, can possibly need a touch up down the road at some point....there are quite a few factors that can play into how it heals....
the artist that does it,how its taken care of,type of ink, etc.
jus my opinion, but you can get tattooed by the best of em,but theres always the chance it could need a touch-up

I'd like to hear more about this. With considering traveling out of state for the best work in tattoos available some may feel more hesitant if touch ups are needed. Now I'd like to hear from the pros!

in my opinion nobody ever should need a touch up but, it happens. if traveling to get the piece was your desire then the extra care should be taken to ensure it isn't needed. the aon guys seem to have a way to care for the piece that cuts down that worry . so listen to them

my personal opinion i try to make sure there is no need for a touch up.... but there are many factors in the healing and aftercare that the artist has no control over that may cause touch ups to be needed.

having said that i do ask certain clients to come back in 3-4 weeks after we finish so i can take a look at the healed product and make sure it's how i want it, color saturation, textures, highlights, etc. then anything i do to it after i consider a "touch-up", other aritsts call them "passes" to acheive the desired effect

touchups? not neccesarily.... it all boils down to when a tattoo is finished. a lot of people call it done, when it isnt truly finished leaving it healing patchy, or whatever, there is always room for darkening areas, and highlighting again, etc. i try and make most tattoos mid to larger size tattoos multiple sessions, to see how they heal, and for deeper color saturation. so really, that session finishes the tattoo. i approach the skin like an oil painting, trying to make as many layers of color in there as possible. generally my one shot tattoos dont need a tough up, but placement, and aftercare are usually the biggest factors in a rough healing, not application.
