The image is not complex enough to make the image disappear. If you had done a cluster of 5 or 6 it might have done the trick. In essence the image should practically disappear during the stencil...

There could be several factors for why it looks like he just barely touches the skin and it looks nicely saturated. It could be hes layering the ink in multiple passes or the ink itself just flys...

Thats true but Im looking more at a color wash\ tonality...less opacity lets say. As for gray wash def agree and after a couple pieces I did this weekend think I might be wasting money getting a gray...

Normally Id agree but looking at it for tint\ tone in certain pieces. Setting a cap works well but would be lovely if when I came back to the image after 4 weeks I still had the exact same tint to...
