One of my pet peeves is trying to be shoehorned into someone else's style. Research artists and find someone whose style you like and tell them what you want (not how you want) and let them go to town. Ultimately you will be happy, because you will get a custom piece and the artist will be happy, because they get to be creative. Heck, you might even get a better deal on pricing.
