ya i have one not that old lol was going to make a little machine to put on the wall in my room at the shop but still have not got around to it lol i hooked it up to my power supply they run just like a tattoo machine

that is the origin or the coil tattoo machines. They took the coils used in door bells and alarms. they've just used higher quality materials and more precise techniques to make the coils used in tattoo machines. The coils in those are not made for continuous use. They only have to do there job for a short period of time and not necessarily in a precise way.

but it would definately be fun to strap a tube vise, armature bar, springs, tube and needle bar, so u can just hit the doorbell button and it runs. cool little ornament.

Those are fun to mess around with. A guy here in town has a pile of them that he's restored.
